Say goodbye to "Plus On-Road Costs"

What do the new laws require?
In short, where a corporation makes a price representation to consumers, it may only use a component price (part of the total price) if it also ‘prominently’ specifies the ‘single (total) price’ payable for the good or service (where a single figure price is quantifiable).

What you need to know

* Any advertisement displaying the single figure price of a product must do so in a way that is at least as prominent as the most prominent price component.

* The use of fine print disclaimers which outline mandatory taxes, fees and other charges which are additional to the cost of the products or services being supplied will need to be reviewed as these costs must now be incorporated in the single price.

For further information please refer to the Classification Handbook.  A new section on Component Pricing has been included and the Information Sheets for “Producing TVCs with Disclaimers & Other On-Screen Text”, “Producing TVCs which promote Motor Vehicles and “Producing TVCs for Real Estate” have been revised in line with the requirements of the new laws.

Existing advertisements
Existing advertisements scheduled for broadcast after 25 May 2009, will need to comply with the new laws.
